As people live throughout their lives
in company that they keep
may portray a fabricated role
not showing what is deep

of which the heart is the spirit man
the inner self that’s true
hidden beneath a covering
that man conceals from view

where happiness is all a front
false joy has played a part
the wellness of one’s burdened mind
is lost within the heart

in laughter the heart is sorrowful
the falseness it is known
the end of mirth is heaviness
in living so alone

apart from God man’s soul is lost
for sin stands in the way
there never is any lasting joy
or peace of mind to stay

but Jesus is the life of man
Who gives His grace for sin
redeeming blood that’s shed for you
in being born again

then laughter in the heart is true
when peace with God is made
for love is found in its fullest
the gift of life He gave
